How to buy from Mercari Japan from overseas
Mercari is Japan's largest consumer marketplace — secondhand and unused goods sold by individuals rather than shops. Prices are low and much of the stock is one-of-a-kind, but sellers ship within Japan only and the app will not accept a signup without a Japanese phone number and payment method.

Mercari's own US site costs more than the Japanese one
Mercari runs a separate English storefront for American buyers at japan.us.mercari.com. It carries the same listings, but the price shown there is converted at Mercari's own rate — a few percent above the market rate — and a 10% service fee is added on top, with shipping and import duties charged separately at checkout. The yen figure on jp.mercari.com is what the seller is actually asking, and that is the price we pay when you send us the link; our commission is quoted to you before anything is bought. For a single small item their storefront is the simpler route — the difference starts to matter once you are combining several purchases into one parcel.
Checked 21 August 2026: the same My Hero Academia figure set was ¥6,999 on jp.mercari.com and $51.74 on the US site, which its own listing broke down as including a $4.71 service fee. At that day's rate of about ¥159 to the dollar the yen listing came to roughly $44 — some 17% less, before shipping on either side.

What to know before you order from Mercari Japan
- Listings are single-quantity and popular items often sell within minutes. Send us the link as soon as you find it rather than saving it for later.
- Read the condition grade before you order — 新品、未使用 (new) through 目立った傷や汚れなし (no notable marks) to 全体的に状態が悪い (poor overall) — and look at every photo.
- Prices are frequently negotiable. Ask us to make an offer (値下げ交渉) and we will message the seller on your behalf.
Worth knowing
Sellers are private individuals and rarely accept returns. We can inspect and photograph your item when it reaches our warehouse, but we cannot send it back to the seller if you simply change your mind.
How it works
- Send the link or place the order. Paste the product URL into your account and we quote the total, including our commission, before anything is bought.
- We receive and check it. Your item arrives at our Osaka warehouse, where we photograph it and record its weight and dimensions. Storage is free for the first 30 days.
- Combine with anything else. Keep shopping at other stores. Everything waiting in your warehouse can go into a single parcel, so you pay international shipping once rather than once per shop.
- We pack and ship. Choose your carrier and we repack to remove wasted space, quote the exact rate, and send it with tracking.
