Why the price is different on Mercari Japan

Mercari's international sites (japan.us.mercari.com, hk.mercari.com and the rest) are a shop front onto the Japanese marketplace. The price you see there is converted into your currency with a cross-border service fee already inside it, and the seller's Japanese domestic shipping is not shown separately.

The Japanese listing shows what the item actually costs in Japan, in yen, and whether the seller is paying the domestic postage (送料込み) or you are (着払い). That is the number worth comparing against — it is what any proxy service, including us, actually pays the seller.

Can I buy from Mercari Japan from overseas?

Not directly. Japanese Mercari needs a Japanese address to ship to, and most sellers post only within Japan. You either use Mercari's own international storefront, or a proxy buyer who has an address in Japan, buys on your behalf and forwards the parcel to you.

Either way you pay the item price, Japanese domestic shipping to the buyer's address, a service fee and international shipping. The difference is what each of those costs and how much of it you can see before you commit.

Why does a listing sometimes not come back?

Mercari listings are single items — once one sells it is gone, and its page stops existing. If this tool cannot find a listing, it has almost certainly sold. Flea-market stock does not restock, so the practical answer is to search for the same item from another seller.
